Research indicates that societal perceptions of masculinity often hinder men from seeking therapy.
What stops men from asking for help with their mental health? Many men believe they should be able to handle problems by themselves and think that reaching out means they are weak. In fact, about 40% of men don’t talk about their mental health issues at all. They often try to hide how they feel by acting tough. Because of this, they find it hard to share their feelings, even when they are having a rough time. But things are starting to change. When men talk about mental health with other men, it often shows that many are going through similar feelings. Sharing these feelings helps make it normal and shows that they are not alone. Talking about mental health is not a sign of weakness; it’s actually a sign of strength.
