How I deal with rainy days

How do you deal with your mood on rainy days – or maybe you actually like them?

Rainy, gloomy days usually make me feel kind of sluggish, which is funny because today my garden’s full of slugs, all out having a munch!

I try my best not to let the gloom (or the slugs) get to me. Instead of feeling down, I switch up my mindset and look for the bright spots.

• My lawn’s nice and green

• My shrubs are doing great

• My water butts are full

Rainy days can drain my energy and motivation, but I know I don’t have to let it. I just need to work a little at staying positive - so what do I do?

I start by changing my vibe - for me, that’s the key between having a bad day and a good one.

Instead of just soaking up the grey outside, I pause, step back, and check in with myself. What’s something I can do today that makes me feel good? Hmm… paperwork. It’s so tempting to ignore, like it’s some kind of nemesis. I know I should do it, but when the sun’s shining, I really don’t want to head to the office and sit at the computer. Today might be perfect for it, though, and let’s face it, I’ll feel so good once it’s done.

Maybe for you, it’s a good day to read, do some chair exercises, or work on a jigsaw puzzle.

Maybe you’re at work, think about what you can do after hours. Organize your tasks by what’s most important and how much energy they need. Plan a walk at lunch- even if it’s raining, just grab an umbrella and go!  And maybe plan your next day off - hopefully, it’s just around the corner.

At the end of the day, look back and ask yourself: did I feel a bit better?  And you know I love journaling - I write down three things I’m grateful for, something I like about myself, what I did today, and anything else I want to get out.
